Johannesburg, South Africa – AFR-IX Telecom today announced a strategic partnership with Project Isizwe, a pioneering initiative dedicated to providing equitable, uncapped internet access to every classroom in South Africa.
Project Isizwe’s mission is clear: to connect schools, communities, and learner homes to the internet so that teaching and learning become more relevant and young people can thrive in the global digital economy. By joining forces, AFR-IX Telecom will deliver the essential connectivity that powers this vision—bridging the digital divide for rural areas and underserved communities.
“Through this partnership, we aim to connect schools, communities, and learner homes with high-capacity internet, empowering the next generation with the tools they need to thrive in a digital world. We are excited to kick off the first project at 3 rural schools. This initiative is more than just connectivity — it’s about creating opportunities, bridging the digital divide, and giving back to the community. Working alongside Shireen Powell, CEO of Project Isizwe, and her passionate team, we look forward to making a real impact together,” said Craig Youg, Country Manager Southern Africa of AFR-IX Telecom South Africa.
The collaboration underscores AFR-IX Telecom’s commitment to community development, charitable projects, and corporate social responsibility (CSR). By deploying robust internet infrastructure, the partnership ensures that learners in rural areas gain access to unlimited online resources, interactive tools, and a world of knowledge previously beyond their reach.
“Nearly 17 000 schools in South Africa still lack reliable internet for teaching and learning. No single company can close that gap alone — it will take every Internet Service Provider, every infrastructure partner, and every sector working together with purpose and urgency, said Shireen Powell, CEO of Project Isizwe. We welcome our partnership with AFR-IX Telecom who shares our vision of ensuring every learner, in every community, has access to the tools and opportunities of the digital world. Together, we can accelerate school connectivity and make inclusion a reality rather than a promise.”
The initiative is already rolling out in targeted rural regions, with plans to expand nationwide. Both organisations invite local stakeholders and community leaders to support and participate in the effort to close South Africa’s digital gap.
